Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
I just watched this cool musical last night (on Turner Classic Movies). I was really blown away by the dance numbers. I also liked all of the characters' voices. They're pretty good actors as well. My favorite numbers were "Barn Dance" (it's THE most well-choreographed dance sequence ever shot on film! I'm tellin' you, it was impeccable!) and "Lament (Lonesome Poloecat)". Imagine six men dancing (and singing) while holding a pick-axe! So anyway, I really liked the story. For those spage-age super-modern people, why don't you try watching classic movies (esp. musicals) for once? They're really awesome! Some of my fave classic movies are:
1. West Side Story
2. Mary Poppins
3. The Sound of Music
4. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the old version)
5. Casablanca
6. Cinderella (the old version; way way way waaaaaaaaayyy before the animated Disney version)
7. Grease (the John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John version)
8. Sixteen Candles
9. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
10. The Breakfast Club
11. The Princess Bride
12. classic James Bond movies (there are lotsa them)
I forgot the others (there are so many!). Anyway, here's a brief synopsis of Seven Brides:
"Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly to marry him that same day. They return to his backwoods home. Only then does she discover he has six brothers -- all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops an inspired solution to his brothers' loneliness . . . kidnap the women they want!"
LOL.
